About the Artist

Born in south London, and originally trained in calligraphy and lettering, Kathryn Dodd moved to west Wales to live and work in the mid 1990's to concentrate her practice on painting. Her work has been shown through out Wales and UK and is represented in Cardiff, Swansea, Cardigan and Carmarthenshire.

Since 2005 Kathryn has included installation techniques in her work. Following an award from the Arts Council of Wales in 2007, she toured an installation project called Inside the Birdhouse through Wales.

A new series of work, 'Inhabit' will be shown at Oriel Q in Narberth, Pembrokeshire in March 2009.  Inhabit celebrates the domestic idiosyncrasies of superstition, ritual and repetitious behaviour that hold together notions of home and self; both the familiar and the absurd. The work considers the layering of memory, belief, function and pattern that imbue and inhabit the familiar things of daily life with significance. These hybridised objects and images represent an imagined view of the symbolic properties of everyday possessions.
